Shopping for a baby can be overwhelming. When you’re looking into purchasing your pram and car seat, it’s worthwhile considering a travel system.
What is a travel system?
A travel system is a capsule car seat which clicks into your pram. Many parents believe this is a handy option as when your baby falls asleep in the car you can easily transfer them to your pram (or inside the house) without waking them up.
Capsules can only be used for bub up to six to 12 months so often it’s an additional purchase as you’ll still need a car seat once they outgrow their capsule.
It’s important to remember that babies shouldn’t be left in any car seat for a long period of time and are at an increased risk of SIDS if left in a sitting position, so keep the capsule usage for short trips or naps only.
In Australia, there is a mandatory safety standard for all car seats. Always ensure your car seat meets these requirements, especially if buying second hand.
• Check the seat as a tag showing certification to the Australian standard AS/NZS 1754 (either 2004, 2010 or 2013).
• By law babies under six months must be in a rearward facing car seat or capsule.
