He’s one of the most enduring figures in showbiz, with a whopping 15 TV WEEK Logie Awards under his belt – and now Bert Newton is celebrating his 82nd birthday.
The TV star hit the milestone on Thursday and he sensibly celebrated in isolation with wife Patti at their Melbourne home, while the city is under lockdown.
But “iso” didn’t stop Patti, 75, from celebrating her husband’s birthday in style.
She organised a special birthday cake for Bert that featured a throwback image of his own face!
“My darling Bert turns 82 today. Happy Birthday from all of us,” Patti wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the cake.
She later uploaded another snap of Bert holding his birthday treat, with the caption: “Bert had a lovely 82nd birthday today. Thank you for all your wonderful messages.”
Other stars, including Rove McManus and Nikki Webster, posted their own tributes to the iconic TV hero.
“Happy Bertday, Mr Newton 😊🎂,” Rove wrote on Instagram, captioning a throwback pic of the duo.
And Nikki penned a heartfelt message to Bert, who has guided her throughout her career in the entertainment industry.
“Happy birthday to one of the most incredible and most inspirational men I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with and have as someone I call a friend,” Nikki wrote.
“I miss our fun times together- fun crazy phone chats when you always checked in on me, to on stage cheeky little skits and tricks we played on each other. I adore you always have and always will. Hope you have an amazing day thank [sic] u for always being their for me.”
As well being parents to their children Matthew, 43, and Lauren, 40, Bert and Patti are grandparents to their daughter’s five kids – son Sam, 11, daughters Eva, nine, and Lola, six, son Monty, two, and daughter Perla, one.
Bert and Patti’s hands are about to become even fuller, with the exciting news Lauren is expecting her sixth child with her husband, former Olympic swimmer Matt Welsh, later this year.
Bert has previously revealed he’s happiest when spending time with his grandchildren.
“They wouldn’t realise it at the moment, but they have made this one of the happiest times of my life,” he told the Herald Sun.
