Lleyton Hewitt has recently laid down the racquet having retired from the competitive world of tennis which means the family man has more time to spend with his children… and their gorgeous little cavoodle.

“Honestly, the kids love the dog. We can go out walking for an hour and the time will just fly,” he laughs.

“Most of the laughter in our household is based around the dog,” his wife Bec agrees.

The tennis champion, who bowed out during last month’s Australian Open, is now adjusting to a new health and food routine.

“Every day is such a routine as a tennis player and a professional athlete, so it’s just second nature what you’re going to eat on your training days.”

Lleyton, who will be on duty as the Davis Cup captain in Melbourne next month, say’s he’s excited about spending more time with his young family.

“I was always so fortunate as a tennis player because I was in charge of my career. It wasn’t like another job, going to work at 8am and finishing at 6; I had so much downtime to be with the kids. But now, it’s more relaxing for me because I don’t have to go to the gym all the time, whereas in the past, you’d feel guilty if you didn’t.”

With three young children, life in the Hewitt house has always been busy but Bec believes preparation is the key to smooth-sailing household.

“The key is being prepared the night before,” says Bec, who has just taken on an ambassador role with Lleyton with Hans Continental’s range of premium deli meats, produced with olive oil, called the Oliving range.

“Uniform, shoes, everything – have it all laid out the night before. But also have the lunches ready. I like to put a lot of thought into what I do and I change it up every day.”

Long gone are the days of peanut butter sandwiches cut into triangles!

“We have a cycle of food that we go between. The girls like their salads with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, cheese and ham or sometimes a sandwich. And always fruit. That’s a non-negotiable for us. Anything that’s healthy.”

Along with Oliving, the duo have filmed a mini-series called “Bec’s Boot Camp” – and it certainly seems they’re both loving spending the extra time together!

We can’t wait to see what they have in store for the future!
