Letting your parents know you’ve started dating is always an awkward coming-of-age milestone for anyone.

But spare a thought for Barack and Michelle Obama’s two daughters, Malia, 18, and Sasha, 15, who also have to contend with the fact their father is the most powerful man in the world.

In a new interview with North Carolina radio station WDCG, the President spoke candidly about his children growing up and becoming interested in the opposite sex.

“As they get older, they ditch ya. They still love you but they don’t have time for ya,” the 55-year-old laughed, before revealing both his daughters have started dating.

“The truth is, I’m pretty relaxed about it. For two reasons, one is Michelle. She’s such a great example of how she carries herself, her self-esteem, not depending on boys to validate how you look or not letting yourself be judged by anything other than your character and intelligence,” the 44th President of the United States shared.

“Hopefully I’ve been a good example in terms of how I show respect to my wife. I don’t worry about it because they’re really solid, smart girls… Young ladies now,” he added.

Barack, pictured with oldest daughter Malia, jokes his daughters have started dating but he isn’t worried because he can use the Secret Service to check up on their suitors.

Obama also revealed the main reason he has no qualms about is all thanks to the Secret Service.

“And the other reason is they have Secret Service. There’s only so much these guys can do! These poor young men come by the house,” Obama chuckled.

“They have no idea,” the radio host chimed in.

“Oh, they have an idea. I describe for them,” the President mused.

The First Family of America are currently counting down the days until they leave the White House as the November 8 elections day looms.

In September, Michelle spoke to InStyle about living a more low-key life once her husband leaves office.

“My hopes are that we recapture some everydayness, some anonymity. And we know that will take some time.”

“But I always joke that I dream of opening up my front door and walking out without any notification, without any security,” the 52-year-old told the publication.

After Barack’s official retirement from his eight-year presidency, the Obamas will be moving into a spectacular Washington property that sits on 8,200 square-feet.

The eight bedroom and nine-and-a half bedroom manor was sold in May 2014 for $USD5 million, and will house the entire family up until 2017 when daughter Malia will head to Harvard.

The First Family are gearing up to leave the White House and move into a Washington mansion.
