Baby with Down Syndrome becomes overnight superstar

A proud mum says her baby girl was “born to make the world smile.”

A proud mum has been overwhelmed with joy after her gorgeous photo of her baby with Down Syndrome clocked up more than 300,000 likes on Facebook.

Kathryn Witt, 26, shared the photo online of her precious daughter Florence smiling as she slept.

The pic, shot by photographer Katy Hibberd for Amor-Amor Photography, has attracted more than 10,000 comments and has been shared worldwide. And it’s obvious why – the photo is so adorable it hurts!

Kathryn has two sons – Alfie and Harry – and while pregnant with Florence, she declined to have the Down Syndrome test.

“At every scan I had the same question, ‘Why have you declined the Down’s syndrome test?”

“Every time, I had the same answer: ‘Because it makes no difference to me if she has Down’s syndrome or not. I’m not afraid of special needs.”

She continued: “When she opened her eyes and I recognised the characteristics of Down’s syndrome, the rush of love didn’t change. The smile stayed.”

“I felt lucky. I’d wanted a baby girl and now I had a baby girl and an extra chromosome too.”

A few days after she was born, doctors confirmed that Florence did have Down’s syndrome – as well as a leaky valve in her heart that’s being monitored.

“Florence was born to make the world smile. I’ve never had a single negative comment or look. When we’re out in town, she gives smiles and receives smiles,” Kathryn said.

“If Florence doesn’t worry about Down’s syndrome, then why should we?”
