Melda Ilgin, who was on holiday with her parents in Turkey over the weekend, was placed in an inflatable device and was floating in the sea when her parents left for their hotel – without taking her with them.

The little girl slowly drifted further and further out to sea, and was more than a kilometre out in rough swell before the coast guard was able to rescue her and bring her ashore again.

The coast guard was alerted to Melda’s presence when other beach-goers noticed the little floating toy getting further out to sea.

People at the beach had tried to swim out to the little girl, but the currents had been too strong.

After her rescue, Melda’s parents admitted they had ‘forgotten’ about her, and only realised she was missing after they heard the beach-goers yelling.

The little girl did not sustain any injuries and has now been reunited with her parents.
