There’s no denying that when I’m shopping – a complete & utter rarity these days – I’m envious. I am burning with a jealousy so strong; I’m surprised I’m not leaving a charcoal trail behind me. I’ve had enough of there being way too many gorgeous & unique baby girls’ clothes – and only a minute selection for boys. It occurs everywhere I go.
I love my baby boy more than life itself, but I’d be blatantly lying if I said I wouldn’t enjoy dressing a girl purely because of the variety available. I feel girls’ clothes allow you to express yourself & your style better – where with boys I see navy, grey, a few trucks & a dinosaur… and oh, navy. I want Bobby to wear eccentric clothes – a true reflection of his already developing personality. I want to steer clear of the ordinary conventions of children’s fashion that has forever existed.
However, Instagram – other than being a loving community where Bobby receives an endless amount of support – also provides us with options.
OPTIONS PEOPLE!
I’ve found some crackers when it comes to boys’ fashion and I truly thank the ever-developing world of social media for that. As a stay-at-home mum, it’s very easy to find yourself endlessly scrolling through news feeds. Before you know it your credit card has magically typed it’s own numbers in on your screen! I keep telling my fiancé that I have NO idea how it always happens…
With that, I’m going to share with you some of Bobby’s favourite – OK, my fave – clothing brands for boys and what I love dressing him in. Some are well known; some are hidden gems of Instagram that I just can’t wait to share with you.
1. BONDS
Well, duh. Who doesn’t love bonds? There’s nothing better than a wondersuit – they’re comfy, easy to wash and keep their shape. Also – WELL-PRICED! I also picked up these denim-look ‘shibori print’ pants last week. A cool acid wash look yet a nice stretchy fabric for a crawling bubba.
2. TALKING RED
Talking Red creates handmade children’s clothes by a mother-duo in Bendigo. The mums noted a lack of boys clothing available back in 2012. Fast-forward to 2015 and their items are now sitting in the wardrobes of Megan Gale’s son, River and Rebecca Judd’s daughter, Billie. I’m a massive fan of their rompers – perfect for hot summers, but also great for winter by adding long-sleeves & leggings underneath.
3. LITTLE LEATHER
100% leather slip on shoes that encourage foot development in little growing feet – and for only $18!?! So many different pattern & designs available that cater for both girls and boys. With the many ‘leather booties’ businesses around, these are my fave!
4. HUXBABY
Priding themselves on unisex fashion for babies with an “adult level” of style I was immediately sold on HuxBaby. Their gender-neutral designs steer clear of pink sparkle skirts & green turtle t-shirts, and provide products that can be handed-down to siblings, regardless of their sex. I am obsessed with black baby clothes (which there is just not enough of!). I think Bobby has been slighty influenced by the fashions of North West.
5. BAM + BOO KIDS
This New Zealand based brand is still in their early days. Their stock is black and there’s lots of it! Ah my heaven! The first thought I had when I pulled my items out of the box was how soft they were.
The garments – made from bamboo & organic cotton – are of amazing quality and I can’t wait for Bobby to fit into his little set. I also got a flat cot sheet, which Bobby is currently using as a light summer blanket. It’s generous in size (150cm x 160cm) and made from the same gorgeous, stretchy fabric as the clothing. It’s perfect for Bobby as he rolls around in his cot at night.
6. BEBI AND BEBA
Cute, stylish clothes for both Mum & Son? Tick!
What I love about Bebi & Beba is their variety and the quality of the brands they stock. Bobby has worn Bebi & Beba products since an early age.
7. BARDOT JUNIOR
Well you don’t make The Daily Mail if you aren’t dress well! Bobby certainly was looking his best in his Bardot ‘Varsity Grow’ at Billie Judd’s first birthday party. If you need an outfit for a special occasion, Bardot Junior would be my go-to. They are easily accessible in-store and online, and I like their generous sizing for the chunky-thigh-babies of the world like my Bobby.
8. KISS CHASEY KIDSWEAR
Now these T-shirts show personality! Funny, cute, tounge-in-cheek tees for kids wanting to make a statement.
I haven’t seen anything like this around in stores, so if you’re after something bold and out there – Kiss Chasey are IT!
