These days, when you think of Alec Baldwin it’s hard not to associate him with his incredible Donald Trump impersonations.
But in a new interview on Good Morning America, the actor reveals there’s one shocking incident from his life he’s made to never forget – the 2007 voicemail to his then 11-year-old daughter Ireland, where he labelled her a “rude, thoughtless little pig.”
Speaking about the incident, he explained on GMA: “It’s thrown in your face every day.”
“There are people who admonish me or attack me and use that as a constant spearhead to do that.”
“It’s a scab that never heals cause it’s being picked at all the time by other people. My daughter, that’s hurt her in a permanent way.”
Alec also touches on the drama in his new memoir Nevertheless: A Memoir, saying it caused a “permanent break” in their relationship.
In 2012, Ireland told Page Six the whole debacle had become “a way bigger deal than it was.”
“He’s said stuff like that before just because he’s frustrated. For me it was like, ‘OK, whatever.’ I called him back I was like, ‘Sorry dad, I didn’t have my phone.’ That was it,” she said.
Alec and his 21-year-old daughter Ireland have managed to move past the incident.
Thankfully the 59-year-old has managed to reconnect with his model daughter and he shares a close bond with the 21-year-old.
In 2015, the pair even poked fun of the gaffe after Ireland shared a hilarious snap of them reading a book titled If I Were a Pig.
Since marrying his second wife, yoga instructor Hilaria Baldwin in 2012, the star has welcomed three more children and says he’s the happiest he’s ever been.
“In the business, you’ve got to be lucky. And I have been lucky to some degree,” he told GMA.
“But, I’m luckier in my personal life. And I’m glad I’m luckier in my personal life. If I had to choose, I’d pick that.”
