What does NAIDOC stand for?

NAIDOC is an acronym which stands for stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. The Observance Committee can be traced back to 1920’s when Indigenous Australians endeavoured to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of their people.

What do we celebrate during NAIDOC week?

During NAIDOC week, we celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements which are a huge part of what makes our country so great.

This school holidays, get your kids engaged and talking about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture by taking them to one of these great events.

School holidays at The Rocks Discovery Museum

Come and celebrate National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week at The Rocks Discovery Museum. Visit the museum and be inspired by its artefacts and surroundings. Hear an Aboriginal guide talk about the design, technology and uses of artefacts, as well as materials and techniques used.

Children can enjoy a craft workshop, where they’ll learn about Aboriginal cultures, artefacts and the Gadigal language through weaving.
