For anyone who was alive and kicking in the nineties, you’ve no doubt seen the feel-good flick that is Mrs Doubtfire.
If you haven’t, do yourself a favour and stream/rent/borrow it and once that’s done, you can hop on a plane to the States and actually visit the house where the movie was filmed, in all its bonafide glory.
Like us, the house looks a bit different to what it did in 1993, but Mrs Doubtfire fans can stand on the very same doorstep that Robin Williams, Sally Field and Pierce Brosnan did during filming.
The actual address (2640 Steiner Street) is even quoted in the movie by Sally Field’s character, when she first speaks to Mrs Doubtfire on the phone.
After Robin Williams’ death in 2014, many fans also flocked to the house and left flowers and letters as a memorial.

Fans of the film can stand outside the house and pose for photos, but don’t hold your breath if you want to go inside. It’s a real, residential house and the interior scenes weren’t even filmed on location, as the house was too small.
While the house, located in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights district, has had a few different owners, from 1997 until 2016 it was the home of Dr. Douglas K. Ousterhout.
As one of America’s top craniofacial surgeons, Ousterhout specialises in transforming the faces of transgender men and women to better match their gender identity.

“I turn boys’ faces into girls’ faces,” Ousterhout told NBC in 2014. “It seemed only natural.”
Dr Ousterhout even knew Robin Williams for a brief time, saying one of his children went to school with one of Williams’ children at San Francisco University High School. Talk about meant to be!
The San Francisco Chronicle reported in 2016 that an anonymous buyer purchased the four-bedroom home for $4.45 million and the same home owner lives there today.
San Francisco has served as the backdrop for many a Hollywood blockbuster film, and several of these these movie locations are still open to the public today.
From rom coms like The Princess Diaries and The Wedding Planner, through to gripping thrillers including Vertigo and Dirty Harry, the city has been the backdrop for some of your favourite flicks, the majority of which you can visit yourself with San Francisco Movie Tours.

The tour bus will even pick you up right from the hot spot that is Fisherman’s Wharf.
The “Ship-yard chic” Zephyr Hotel at Fisherman’s Wharf is just a hop skip and a jump away from where the movie tours bus will collect you, too.
