Christmas can be a divisive time: while some people are fortunate enough to spend December 25 unwrapping presents with family, others may be spending it alone or even in places like hospital.
But often, come Christmas time, tales that are heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measure come to the surface – just like the story of a sweet little girl who asked Santa for not a gift for herself, but her sick big brother, Robert.
“The gift I really want for Christmas is, well, I’m not sure if you can do this I would like you to try…” Allie Muir Hart of Atlanta in the US wrote.
“I would like a cure for cancer because my 13-year-old brother has cancer. I have been really good this year – please try.”
Allie’s brother, Robert, is currently fighting childhood cancer – a devastating condition that he has been living with since he was just six years old.
Sharing Allie’s sweet, yet full-of-sorrow letter on Facebook, her mum, Kasie, says that “our kids deserve so much more”.
“Please read this carefully. My seven-year-old wrote it today,” Kasie began.
“Sweetest and saddest thing I’ve ever read. Now, if anyone can find the cure for childhood cancer in the next few weeks that would be swell – if not a little girl is going to wonder why.”
“Our kids deserve so much more.
According to the Australian Government’s Cancer Australia, in 2917, it is estrimated that 719 kids aged 0-14 years will be newly diagnosed in Australia.
