Roxy Jacenko transforms a Kmart kids’ cubby into a Hamptons-inspired dream house

The flashy PR queen is a Kmart-mum just like the rest of us.

What happens when a PR queen, known for her love of luxurious sports cars and designer clothes, walks into a Kmart? She buys a basic kids’ cubby and swiftly transforms it into a Hamptons-inspired dream play house much to the delight of her three-year-old son, Hunter.

Mum-of-two, Roxy Jacenko proved she’s not too posh for a Kmart pit-stop when she alerted her social media followers that she was going to construct and makeover an affordable cubby house from the retailer giant into a chic “beach house” for Hunter.

Roxy’s fans were thrilled to watch the construction unfold on social media, eager to replicate it themselves just in time for Christmas.

Starting with the wooden cubby house from Kmart, valued at $199 and with the help of a handyman (sold separately) the structure was assembled.

“Construction is complete of our new @kmartaus beach house now the painting & decorating commences with @rkogan172 & @duluxaus,” the savvy mum wrote.

In its original form the cubby house boasts cute features such as a pitched roof, white plastic windows, barn-style door and a flower box.

Once constructed, the next step was a coat of paint. The Sweaty Betty owner opted for a soft blue from Dulux’s range of paints for the coastal chic cubby house, and a crisp white for the roof and door.

Following the first coat of paint, the Sydney socialite’s handyman used a product called ‘No More Gaps’ to waterproof Hunter’s new play house.

“Filling any gaps today with ‘No more gaps’ using poly fila prior to the final coat of @duluxaus,” Roxy explained.

Hunter and his big sister Pixie appear very pleased with the progress of the cubby house. Roxy is yet to reveal the finished product; however a snap of sweet Hunter admiring his new cubby shows that his mum has further embellished the design by fixing a silver bell to the front of the cubby.

We can’t wait to see the finished product!
