If you kept your vintage pyrex, you could be sitting on a gold mine

Who'd have known?

Many folks who own and use vintage Pyrex swear it’s still as good as gold. But they might not realize just how accurate that is.

Consider this: The price of a gram of gold today is $40.37.

Keeping this is mind, we hope you’re sitting down when you hear that a single vintage Pyrex bowl from the 1940s is selling for a whopping $1,000. But if you’ve been browsing Etsy recently and saw that a Pristine Pink Gooseberry Pyrex set is selling for $1,850, then maybe that’s not a huge shock to you. [NPR](http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2017/07/25/538527917/does-your-familys-century-old-pyrex-still-rule-the-kitchen |target=”_blank” |rel=”nofollow”) even recently claimed that some vintage Pyrex pieces can be worth up to $3,000.

So maybe the Vintage Turquoise Pyrex set selling for $700 on eBay is starting to look like a bargain right about now!

There’s no question that vintage Pyrex is still a hot commodity today, more than a century after the famous glassware first made its debut. Just check out the Facebook page Pyrex Passion, which now boasts more than 16,000 enthusiastic members.

Despite vintage Pyrex’s shortcomings (it’s heavy to carry and is not dishwasher-safe), it is popular with its collectors not only for its durability and pretty patterns, but also for the fact that it remains so usable. In other words, you’d be hard-pressed to find a vintage Pyrex fan that doesn’t use the pieces for their original purpose – baking.

“I’m always surprised by the number of people collecting that didn’t know how many others were out there,” Pyrex Passion administrator Kristina West said. “It’s like their secret shame.”

Clearly, there is no reason to be ashamed of your vintage Pyrex, especially with such an intense fanbase. If you’re looking to make a extra cash, you may consider reselling yours for some potentially serious big bucks (bonus points if your pieces are in mint condition and several decades old). But if you can’t bear to part with it, believe us, we understand!
