And while you can absolutely purchase a wreath already-made, there is something quite special about a real wreath made out of fresh flowers.

This will makes a gorgeous addition to your Christmas decorating, with the fresh flowers immediately welcoming your family and friends into your home.

Here’s our step-by-step guide to making a fresh wreath – we’ve chosen beautiful native Australian flowers for this particular version.

This gorgeous fresh flower wreath is literally as simple as 1, 2, 3.

For the wreath, you’ll need a wooden or cane wreath and your favourite flowers and greenery.

Cut the stems of your flowers to around 4cm. Using small bunches of foliage and flowers at a time, secure the stems of both to the wreath with cable ties.

Continue attaching the bunches of foliage to the wreath – try to keep the design as balanced as possible. The best way to do this is to make your way around the wreath in small sections, positioning all foliage and flowers in the same direction.

We used waratahs for our fresh flower wreath. You can celebrate more of our beautiful Australian native flowers this Christmas with this other stunning home-made wreath.

You will need a clothes hanger, secateurs, a large bunch of dodder vine, Australian native flowers – we used macrocarpa gum and youngiarna, brown string, rope or twine.

Take a simple metal clothes hanger and undo the shape to form a straight length. Shape the wire with your hands to form a circle – don’t be too concerned with making a perfect round shape, the dodder vine will hide any imperfections. Twist the ring into itself and lock ends together.

Start by wrapping a large bunch of dodder vine around your wire frame. Loop the vine in and out of the frame to wrap around it – it will all stay in place because of the consistency of the vine. Build up the wreath with small bunches of vine until it’s completely covered.

Trim your native flowers and poke them into the vine. These can be secured with simple brown string. Build up your flowers so they’re evenly spread around your wreath.

Tie the rope or twine at the top of the wreath to hang on your door.
