Drank a little too much over Christmas lunch? Didnโt know when to say โnoโ on New Yearโs Eve/any other day of your holiday?
Donโt beat yourself up about it (youโre already in enough pain); try these hangover cures to perk you up ASAP.
Drink water
Obviously. But sometimes, good old H2O just doesnโt cut it. Some people swear by Cola-Cola; others sports drinks. A cool can of ginger beer may also do the trick โ ginger is packed with natural anti-nausea properties, so may help settle your stomach.
Have a piece of toast
Carbs will help bring your blood sugar levels back up after a night drinking (low blood sugar levels will make you tired and irritable). Many people opt for a greasy breakfast, but if youโre feeling particularly fragile, go for an easily digestible piece of toast with honey or Vegemite.
Nibble on a banana
Bananas have the dual benefit of being gentle on your stomach and high in potassium โ eating one will raise your blood-sugar levels and also energise you.
Ease your headache
Opt for anti-inflammatories like Aspirin or ibuprofen if you want to take pain medication; other medication can be harmful to your already fragile liver.
Go back to bed
If youโve got nowhere to be, going back to sleep for a couple of hours may be the best idea youโve made all year. Sleeping helps your body do what it needs to do to recover, and has the added bonus of making you forget about the hell youโre currently in.
And before your next boozy lunch?
Have a glass or two of pear juice!
It sounds crazy, but researchers have found consuming pear juice before you start drinking can have an affect on blood alcohol levels and lessen your hangover the next day. Sign us up!
