Just days before Christmas, Hilary Duff and her partner Matthew Koma tied the knot in a small but stunning ceremony in their back yard.

Dressed in a sleek and chic white gown, the Younger star was the picture perfect bride, but her designer frock had a special link to one of our favourite royal style icons, Duchess Catherine.

Speaking to Vogue, the 32-year-old bride said that her dress was custom-made in London and then shipped to L.A by British designer Jenny Packham, a favourite of the Duchess of Cambridge.

“I sat down with my stylist, Jessica Paster, and we went through many designers and looked at their aesthetics, and together we settled on Jenny,” she told the publication. “Her work is so beautiful.”

“There’s a very modern shoulder. When we were coming up with the design, it was important to me that it was striking but simple. I couldn’t imagine wearing a big fluffy dress.”

What a beautiful bride!

Speaking of the design, the Lizzie McGuire star said that she wanted her dress to reflect her husband’s “simple” taste but that she wanted to feel like herself at the same time.

“The end result of what we came up with, with Jenny, is exactly how I wanted him to see me. I think it’s how he would envision what I would look like as a bride. It’s really special,” she said.

To make matters even sweeter, designer Jenny said that the couple’s initials were embroidered on the inside of the dress’s skirt- a personal detail requested from the beginning by the bride herself.

“I think when a lot of us think of Hilary Duff we probably would imagine she’s going to wear a real enormous fairytale dress, and she wears a lot of strapless things as well,” Jenny said. “So I think this dress is quite a statement of her doing something surprising and unexpected.”

But that wasn’t Hilary’s only wedding dress- there was another one that was a little more glam.

The mum-of-two shared two stop-motion videos on her Instagram stories of herself and Matthew, presumably taken at the evening reception, in which she wears a two-piece gold ensemble accessorised with matching hoop earrings and her hair slicked back.

The look of love.

Duchess Catherine is one of Jenny Packham’s most famous clients, but the designer herself was inspired by the Duchess’s late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

Speaking to Glamour magazine about a shoot the Princess of Wales did with Mario Testino, the designer recalled thinking the royal looked “amazing.”

“I think she had a Versace dress on – was actually, for me, quite an inspiration because it was completely beaded and quite unusual,” she told the publication.

Since becoming a royal, Duchess Catherine has worn Jenny Packham’s designs for numerous royal outings.

On her royal tour of Pakistan with Prince William this year, the Duchess of Cambridge donned a glittering green number by the British designer for an evening reception with the British High Commissioner to Pakistan.
