The #Fatkini hashtag is encouraging curvy women on social media to share images of themselves in swimwear to push retailers to design bikinis in bigger sizes.

The positive body image trend, sparked by blogger Gabi Fresh, is quickly spreading on Instagram and Tumblr.

In 2012 the blogger, who has her own line of swimwear for Swimsuits For All covering sizes 10 to 24, called for her fans to dare to wear whatever swimsuit style they wanted.

“I truly encourage you guys to get to the beach (or a pool) this summer – don’t let body shame keep you from having a good time,” Fresh wrote.

“I don’t expect everyone to feel comfortable in a two-piece, but hopefully I can inspire some of you to take the plunge.”

Online communities are embracing other selfie hashtags like #losehatenotweight which all appear to be in response to the size 0 trends made famous by slender stars like Nicole Richie and Victoria Beckham.
