The only thing more fashionable than race-day style is, well, royals wearing race-day style – and Royal Ascot is exhibit A, B and C.
As the prestigious racing event gets underway for 2019, we’ve already seen some jaw-dropping outfits that have wowed us with their chic sophistication.
For starters, let’s take a look at Kate Middleton, who provided a rip-roaring start to the festivities by wearing a heavenly blue Elie Saab number that had us revelling in all its princess-perfect fairy tale-worthy glory.
And that was just the beginning!
So why is Royal Ascot more of a fashion spectacle compared to other royal-worthy events?
Well, for many, there’s nothing quite like the intrigue behind the strict royal rules our favourite members of the British elite must follow for the glamorous affair.
A strict dress code applies for all men and women in attendance.
For the ladies, dresses must be worn either just above or below the knee. In addition, dress straps must be a least 2.5cm thick (bye bye, spaghetti straps!).
Meanwhile, a headpiece which has a solid base of 10cm or more in diameter (nothing less!) is acceptable.
For men, socks and black shoes are compulsory, as well as a waistcoat complete with a tie. Black or grey top hats are also given the thumbs up.
With such a strict dress code in mind, it’s no wonder the royal fashions on the field look so incredibly schmick – and 2019’s event is no different.

Eugenie Autumn Phillips
The Princess was all smiles as she chatted to Autumn Phillips, who is married to the son of Princess Anne, Peter. We’re loving Autumn’s floral dress too!
Zara Tindall
Zara tested the royal racing rule book when she wore this teal coloured dress that fell just above her knees… but did she actually break protocol? You decide!
Queen Elizabeth

Spot the newlyweds! Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston were only married a mere month ago, but they already look well settled as husband and wife. Gabriella’s fresh peachy look is giving us plenty of summer vibes!

On day two of the frivolous event, Duchess Camilla stunned in Tiffany blue as she stepped out on the Ascot green. We can’t get enough of this pear choker necklace either – that turquoise jewel!

Meanwhile, Princess Anne also looked just as fetching – in an almost matching pearl choker of her own! Royal twinning moment alert!
Sophie of Wessex
Sophie of Wessex also looked classy as day two kicked off, wearing a chic high-neck dress along with a printed hat. It was a special day for the royal, who was celebrating her 20th wedding anniversary with husband Prince Edward – congratulations to them!

As for the Queen? On day two, she opted for an outfit in yet another lovely shade of blue – it really is her colour!
On day one, Kate Middleton stunned as she stepped out in a heavenly blue Elie Saab dress featuring sheer sleeves and a pussy-bow ribbon at her neck – what a vision!
Kate Middleton William laugh
A dapper William looked as though he couldn’t quite believe how lucky he was to have Kate as his plus one!

From the Order of the Garter Service in Windsor on Monday to Royal Ascot on Tuesday! Queen Maxima of The Netherlands has really made the most of her trip to the UK.
She and husband King Willem-Alexander appeared to have a good time – between looks of love!
Sophie of Wessex’s printed pink dress was all kinds of chic.
And the matching print undertone on her white hat added a very stylish touch.
Entering stage left alongside Sophie was Princess Anne, who looked zesty in yellow tones.
Princess Diana’s niece Lady Kitty Spencer stunned in a white lace design – rather reminiscent of Kate Middleton’s previous go-to Ascot look, might we add…
Princess Beatrice’s blue embroided design was regally fetching.
And check out the tassels on that hat!
Meanwhile Princess Eugenie opted for a more vibrant shade of the go-to colour of Day 1 at Ascot – but her unexpected choice in bag colour has left fashion-enthusiasts a little stumped – perhaps colour-un-coordination is in?
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, lit up the grey day in her light pink look.
Kiwi model Georgia Fowler pulled out the glamour for the regal event in a dusty pink gown.
