Over the weekend the Danish royal attended a Tour de France 2022 event with her husband Crown Prince Frederik and shook up her look.

In fact, the 49-year-old appeared to turn to Gen Z for some fashion inspiration donning a striped turtleneck vest layered with a button-up blue shirt, styled with a black belt fastened around her waist.

2021 has seen plenty of functional 90s trends like plaid skirts, skinny sunglasses, wide-legged jeans, and leather blazers come back into vogue and vests layered over button-up shirts and t-shirts have dominated the runways.

From heritage fashion houses like Prada, Gucci and Dior, to edgier and younger brands like Ganni, the trend has raised through the ranks to become 2021’s most copied style.

Gen Z was the first group to take on the trend after fashion idols like Gigi Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and Alexa Chung were photographed wearing vests with shirts.

However, the look isn’t only reserved for buzzword approved generation groups.

We’re obsessed with this 90s trend and Mary is totally pulling it off.

Pairing a shirt and vest combo with sleek cigarette pants and kitten heels makes it instantly office approved, but you can also dress it down by matching the vest and shirt duo with chunky sneakers and mum jeans.

We’re big fans of how Mary’s long, straight-legged black pants and high heeled boots that she matched with her knitted vest.

The Danish royal’s black pants elevated the whole look.
