As a fashion photographer Victoria Janashvili is use to looking at women’s bodies in all states of undress and there is one thing she’s noticed, no matter the size of her subjects; they’re all beautiful.
“At some point I was like, ‘I need to make a response, something that would show what I think is beautiful and healthy,’ ” Janashvili told the New York Post. “Then somehow, the idea of the book popped.”
With that revelation in mind, Janashvili set out to spread a message of body love and began a Kickstarter crusade in December last year to raise $40,000 to publish her ‘Curves’ photography book featuring women of all shapes and sizes.
To Janashvili’s amazement her call to action went viral with its slogan: “We love your booty. Get it behind this book. The future of healthy booties, big and small, may depend on it.”
In March of this year Janashvili informed her generous financial backers that the funds had been raised and the 140-page assemblage of nude and nearly nude images dedicated to the beautiful variety of the female form was off to the printers.
Janashvili sought the talents of buxom models like Denise Bidot, Katya Zharkova, Emma Meyer, Jennifer Maitland and the late Joanne Borgella to feature in the spreads as well as thinner lingerie models, like Donna Feldnman, to illustrate that “everybody’s journey is so different”.
The 26-year-old photographer even featured a nude self-portrait to drill the message of self-acceptance home.
“I wasn’t sure if I would be in the book until the end,” says Janashvili, who snapped herself in just a few clicks. “I don’t really like the image, but the whole point of the book is self-acceptance.
That being said, I’m still working on myself, just like most women on their journey of self-love.”
‘Curves’ will now be out on Wednesday.
