In the midst of 2015’s Wool Week, The Weekly’s style director, Mattie Cronan, travelled to the heart of the country to showcase one of Australia’s finest exports – wool.
The editorial was shot at Alan McCormack’s Walwa Merino Stud in country NSW and it appears in the latest issue of The Weekly, featuring dreamy knits and soft woollen wears from some of Australia’s top labels.
“Australia produces some of the best wool in the world,” said Cronan, “It’s great to see not only top international designers utilising Australian wool, but also our own local designers.”
Names like Trenery, Sportscraft, Saba, Country Road, Jigsaw and Kookai came out in support of Woolmark’s Campaign for Wool, which runs Monday the 18th to Friday the 22nd, and aims to promote Australian wool products and their benefits on the international stage.
But it’s not only high profile designers that are in favour of Woolmark’s woolly campaign – Prince Charles is also a patron. Meeting last year with a slew of Aussie designers, the Prince was sold on the benefits.
“Wool is a fibre even the most brilliant boffin in the most high-tech laboratory could never create,” said Prince Charles, “Humanity must realise it is unable to replace nature.”
