There’s no denying Trump’s visit to the UK has sparked a number of discussions, some involving fierce protests, and others sheer disbelief that it’s all even happening.
But in a move that’s surprised everyone, it’s actually been Trump’s wife Melania who has really got people talking now – and it’s all because of her fashion choices.
Indeed the First Lady of the United States has made some seriously bold fashion choices as she’s mixed with royals during her and her husband’s three-day stay in the UK.
In her very first outfit of the visit it came as a surprise when Melania stepped out wearing a white and navy blue Dolce & Gabbana ensemble that was very similar to styles worn by Princess Diana in the past.
Then came the inevitable ‘Meghan Effect’ moment, where the brunette attended a formal dinner with Prince Charles and Camilla wearing a floor-length red gown designed by the Duchess of Sussex’s preferred designer – Clare Waight Keller.
Indeed the talented Artistic Director at Givenchy designed Meghan’s coveted wedding dress in 2018, and her creations have since been worn by the Duchess for many a special occasion – including her unforgettable British Fashion Awards appearance, where Meghan stunned in a one-shoulder sequined dress.
For Melania to opt for Waight Keller’s designs is a major sign she is using fashion to connect with the royals.
And now, in a moment that’s surprised us more than ever, eagle-eyed watchers have pointed out that another recent fashion choice of Melania’s could be making a subtle nod to a number of people.
As she flew out from the United States to travel to the UK on June 2, the striking brunette wore a printed Gucci dress featuring a green belt.
And while the bold print in itself was eye-catching enough, it was the designer that really got people talking.
Indeed with the recent news that several US states had passed legislation which restricted the access for women to have an abortion, many people have been distressed, angry and calling for change.
But by choosing to wear a dress by Gucci, Melania might well have been giving a subtle nod towards pro-abortion – as the label is renowned for it.
It wasn’t long ago that their 2020 resort collection featured a slew of protest designs, with models strutting the runways with gags wrapped around their mouths, as well as other designs featuring protesting slogans such as ‘My Body My Choice’.
While Melania’s choice in wearing the dress might well have simply been coincidental, there’s no denying she puts a lot of thought into her wardrobe – so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the move was on purpose.
That being said, Melania hasn’t been shy of wearing some rather controversial (and downright anger-inducing) designs.
While going to visit a shelter for immigrant children in 2018, Melania wore a Zara jacket with a slogan that sparked complete rage: ‘I really don’t care, do u?’
It seems Melania’s Gucci choice, if anything, at least suggests there’s some understanding of the masses here…
