REVEALED: The fascinating reason Duchess Meghan keeps wearing this colour

More than just a shirt.

Duchess Meghan doesn’t pick her outfits lightly, that much has always been clear – but lately, it seems her wardrobe choices have meant so much more.

Since she stepped back in her role as a senior royal, and shortly before the world went into a full blown lockdown amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve seen the Duchess only sparingly as she settled into her new life in Los Angeles with husband Prince Harry and their one-year-old son Archie.

Of course, a lack of seeing the Duchess means a lack of seeing her many glorious outfits – something not taken lightly by those royal fashion fans among us.

Luckily, her last fashion display as she wrapped up her final engagements in London back in March was one for the books.

Bright blue, red, orange and green outfits were splashed across articles the world over as the Duchess gave fans a spectacle to remember in her boldest colour palette yet.

And while her appearances have been incredibly scare since going into lockdown, we have seen Meghan a handful of times since… though it’s not been quite so colourful.

Granted Meghan has always been a white shirt fan, but it seems she’s really been taking to crisp white collared silhouettes of late – and upon reflection, it seems there might be a very good reason for it.

As a fierce advocate for human rights, and specifically her work and support for the Black Lives Matter movement recently, the Duchess has stuck to wearing white creations when appearing anywhere on a public platform.

And as it happens, that could very well be because of the symbolism behind the colour white.

Meghan’s choice in wearing white for a recent video in support of the Black Lives Matter movement might have meant more than we thought.

Often associated with peace and goodness, the colour was an apt addition to her words as she spoke out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement in a video dedicated to the graduating class of Immaculate Heart High School back in June.

“We are seeing people stand in solidarity and seeing communities together and to uplift. And you are going to be part of this movement. I know that this is not that graduation that you envisioned, and this is not the celebration that you imagined,” she said in the powerful video.

“Now you get to be part of the rebuilding… and we are going to rebuild and rebuild and rebuild until it is rebuilt. Because when the foundation is broken, so are we.

“You are going to lead with love, you are going to lead with compassion you are going to use your voice. You are going to use your voice in a stronger way that you’ve ever will do.”

Meghan was seen a few weeks later out in public as she helped to prepare food for vulnerable communities in Los Angeles amidst the pandemic.

She and Prince Harry were photographed alongside a number of volunteers helping local organisation Homeboy Industries as they packed meals.

Sure enough, there Meghan was wearing a white shirt.

In July, the Duchess and her husband were again seen in a new video speaking to several young leaders from organisations helping people who have migrated to the UK.

The Duchess told them: “Equality does not put anyone on the back foot, it puts us all on the same footing – which is a fundamental human right.”

She added: “We’re going to have to be a little uncomfortable right now, because it’s only in pushing through that discomfort that we get to the other side of this and find the place where a high tide raises all ships.”

And, of course, her striking words were set off by yet another crisp white shirt.

Over the weekend, Meghan was again pictured in Los Angeles with Harry, this time wearing a chic white dress along with a straw hat and sunglasses.

In pictures obtained by PEOPLE, the Duchess looked casual, yet assertive as she and Harry awaited their car from a valet in Beverly Hills.

With no less than four (and likely more) occasions of wearing white since the beginning of the George Floyd protests in the United States, it seems that Meghan’s outfit choices are reflecting a sentiment from across the world as we continue to work towards a society without systematic racism.

And once again, the Duchess proves meaning can be found even in the most unlikely places – fashion included.
