Last Thursday, the President of the United States hosted a state dinner at the White House in Washington D.C. to honour Canada’s new Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, although it was technically his night, all eyes were on Obama’s two beautiful daughters, Malia and Sasha.
Barack and Michelle’s girls looked all grown up in glamorous Naeem Khan gowns as they sat down to attend their first ever state dinner since their father was elected as President in 2008.
His astonishment and pride for his two daughters was not only written on his face, but also in his speech.
“When I first elected to this office, Malia was just ten and Sasha was seven. And they grow up too fast,” the 54-year-old said during his opening remarks. “Now Malia is going off to college… And I’m starting to choke up.”
17-year-old Malia donned an embellished, cream strapless gown with her long hair swept to one side in flowing waves, whilst her younger sister Sasha wore a high-necked black and burgundy lace dress with a thin black choker necklace and a braided up-do.
It’s believed each designer dress cost around $26, 356.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also gave a nod to the two sisters during his speech, saying: “It’s also touching to meet Malia and Sasha, who are here at their first State Dinner.”
He also took the opportunity to compliment the young women on their “wisdom” and the “extraordinary strength” they’ve shown as public figures who have been thrust into the spotlight.
“I admire you very much, both of you, for your extraordinary strength and your grace, through what is a remarkable childhood and young adulthood that will give you extraordinary strength and wisdom beyond your years for the rest of your life,” he praised.
“The one thing that you have received from your extraordinary parents is the tools to be able to handle the challenges and the opportunities in front of you.”
