If you’re currently in a slight wardrobe pickle as we trek through these strange, self-isolating times, you most certainly aren’t alone.
As the COVID-19 pandemic threw our lives into complete disarray, our wardrobes followed suit.
A new normal has indeed begun – and it stems right back to this year’s trending fashions.
Of course, there was one particular trend to rise from the months of lockdown Australia has endured (and in some parts, continues to endure) – loungewear.
The clothing we’d firmly categorised as at-home or gym-wear only, which meant wearing it far less frequently, quickly became our daily go-to staples.
Gone were the high-waisted denims, the crisp corporate pant and the tailored blazer.
In came a new wave of comfy sweats, soft tracksuits and gloriously soft knits.
Now, as we continue on in different phases of lockdown, whether it be a full-scale stage three or a staggered return to work, your thoughts might be turning to your winter wardrobe vibe.
When we originally went into lockdown, summer was still in full swing for many of us, so traditional winter coats and coveted boots haven’t been spared a thought despite the fact we’re in the depths of Aussie winter.
So where to from here?
Well, THE ICONIC head of style, Nicole Adolphe has some solid pointers.
Casual is the new norm
“From relaxed dinner looks, to a new Casual Friday week-long wardrobe for the office, get set to prioritise comfort and utility, without a compromise on style,” Nicole explains to Now To Love.
“Think soft fabrics, comfort fits and relaxed tailoring.”
And as for colours and textures?
“I recommend investing in key staples like monochrome loungewear, a neutral new-season ribbed dress, relaxed-fit denim and classic white sneakers to ace effortless style with ease.”
Sounds like a style we can easily get on board with.

Conscious and considered
Just because we’re battling a pandemic doesn’t mean the world stops its war on waste.
“Sustainability continues to be a hot button topic in 2020 and shows no signs of burning out,” Nicole tells us.
“[Lockdown] has been a time for self reflection on what really is important and we expect to see a rise in customers seeking out fashion that is kinder to the environment, animals and the community.”
THE ICONIC launched their Considered Edit filter to help shoppers make more mindful decisions when it comes to shopping for more sustainable clothing options, including brands that produce their garments with care and measures that are easier on the environment.
Keep it homegrown
There’s no denying the fashion retail industry has taken a huge hit in the wake of the pandemic, particularly the smaller, careful startups who put their whole livelihoods into the success of their small businesses.
In Australia, we’re facing economic struggles that haven’t been even been fathomed yet, so consciously tuning your mindset to buy from local, homegrown brands is never going to be a bad thing.
Nicole explained: “THE ICONIC shoppers are getting behind the local fashion industry and are stocking up on Aussie favourites, including RM Williams Bec & Bridge, Christopher Esber and SIR the Label proving that we really are ‘all in this together.'”
