Jane Fonda’s beauty is legendary and even at 77 the Hollywood icon is still winning in the fashion stakes.

Jane Fonda is best known for her fitness empire and renowned roles on film and in the last 15 years the stunning Oscar winner has earned her stripes as one of fashion’s most impressive women.

In a new interview with W magazine, the mother-of-three discussed being labelled a fashion icon and her body image: “I think it’s a hoot that, at my age, people are calling me a fashion icon,” she quipped.

As for what works best with her figure? It’s all about showing off the best asset – her derrière. “I’m best when I’m wearing something structured, with no frills or bows. Something that will show my waist and bum, because I’ve always had a good bum.”

The screen legend didn’t really discover her love for clothing until the 2000 Academy Awards, where she showed up in a breath-taking satin number.

“When I stepped out to present the award in my strapless satin dress and new haircut, there was an audible gasp. I thought: ‘Oh. Oh, this is new,’” she told the magazine.

“I was so melancholy over Ted [Jane’s ex-husband], and I realised in that moment that clothes mattered,” the work-out queen said, before explaining: “They could change your mood in an instant. And I thought, I could do this.”

And she has. Jane Fonda transcends the boundaries and limitations that age often implies and instead, she hopes to provide motivation to older women so they can embrace getting older.

“Truthfully, my relationship to fashion has always been strained… I hated all the emphasis on how I looked, and I never paid much attention to clothes.”

Despite being an unwilling style star, we’re glad Miss Fonda continues to delight us with her enviable ensembles.
