How to wear brights and get it right

Do you dress according to your safe colours? Here, Woman’s Day fashion editor Gracie Doyle tells you how to experiment with colour and how to get it right!

One: Don’t wear neon top to toe, choose one statement piece and team with neutrals and blacks.

Two: Do wear natural makeup, going over the top with makeup and a bold outfit can end up looking like a cirque du soleil costume so just a slick of mascara and some lipgloss should suffice.

Three: For those a bit frightened of the trend, ease your way in with accessories, like a clutch or shoes with neon accents.

Four: If you want to wear a colourful outfit, colour blocking is the best way to do it. Pick plain coloured pieces to team together.

Ellen Pompeo teams bright pink pants with a plain white top.

Kim Kardashian and her mum Kris experiment with neon on black and white basics.

Adventurous Beyonce teams an eye-popping top with a patterned skirt of similar colours.

Dame Helen Mirren isn’t afraid to add a touch of pink to an already bright number.

Jennifer Lopez nails the nude make-up look.

Beyonce’s tanned complexion is enough against this bright orange.

Heidi Klum teams this neon number with a nude lip and light smokey eye.

Cameron Diaz’s natural hair and make-up is perfection against this full-length orange gown.

Brooklyn Decker adds a pop of colour to her outifit with neon yellow heels.

Zooey Deschanel’s neon green bag is the perfect accessory.

Colour blocking is right on trend and Jessica Alba knows how it is done.

First lady Michelle Obama is a fan of brights and often colour blocks her outfits.
