Australian Fashion Week – Tuesday highlights

Lisa Ho knows what summer is all about, relaxed clothes in beautiful fabrics perfect for long lunches in the sun. This floor-sweeping dress typified her look at the unveiling of her Summer 09 collection at RAFW today.

Colours were muted with a focus on the contrasting linen blazers – complete with sleeves pushed up for a more masculine look to complement the feminine fabrics.

Although oatmeal, indigo and pale violet dominated, the collection was punctuated with jade, fuchsia and abstract florals that made for some glamorous evening gowns.

Soft dreamy silks couples with the signature blazer look.

Striking blues gave a modern edge to the clasic slouch suit.

Floral seems to be the leading style-note of Australian Fashion Week and Aussie designers Zimmerman wowed onlookers with this stunning transparent mini-dresses perfect for throwing on over your swimsuit to go from day to night after a long day at the beach.

Floral prints were teamed simply black detail for a striking look.

Zimmerman showed their edge with this modern pants suit to juxtapose their floral feminine story.

Teaming different floral prints was all the rage on the Zimmerman catwalk seen in this dreamy print maxi-dress.

The little black dress is always a staple for the Zimmerman wardrobe. Cinched at the waist for a new season’s twist.

Hills Spring Summer 08/09 presents a dramatic story: the old versus the new, coming together in a stiking collection at RAFW this week and has been inspired by the dark and romantic tales of the Renaissance & Edwardian Period.

Jessie has produced voluminous silhouettes, by playing with asymmetry, and structured pleating. Complementing her collection Hill has collaborated with Elke Kramer on a truly exquisite accessories range featuring oversized bangles, contrasted with delicate, hollow, geometric, laser-cut bracelets that combine antique aesthetics and new technology.

Artificial vs Real: Through innovative technology, incorporated into Hill’s garments, we watch the models embody the bombardment of this media frenzied world.

The fluidity of Hill’s garments gives a feminine feel to the harder edge of the assymetrical garments.

Creating modernized bustles from endless layers of luxurious silk georgette, Hill enhances the illusion of what’s beneath the surface – by only exposing hints of colour under multitudes of fabric.

Inspired by the romantic days of the British Raj, Alex Perry’s RAFW collection showed intricately beaded silks, crisp white cottons, lines and tailored denims reminiscent of India in the early 1900s.

Alex Perry’s collection ‘Safari Princess’ showcased stunning floor-swweping gowns with fluid movement and a soft palette of colours.

The Alex Perry ‘Safari Princess’ has been on safari, travelling to British Colonial India, her wardrobe has been re-invented and is envied by all!

Crisp white was heavily featured in Perry’s collection – this modern version of the safari suit was a huge crowd pleaser at the show on Tuesday night.

Soft colours and intricate detail were a strong theme in Perry’s show.
