Sherlock creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have sent fans in to a spin, with a mysterious new teaser hinting at an exciting ‘new adventure’ for the series’ lead characters.
In a clip shared on May 22nd – International Sherlock Holmes Day – the pair say they want to make an ‘announcement.’
“It’s not a new episode, not a new series, not a film, not a jigsaw, not a bread bin,” they say. “Not a range of decorative cutlery… although that would be nice.”
“It’s a new adventure,” they continue. “An actual new adventure, a proper one involving the people that you’d expect to be involved in a Sherlock adventure.”
Steven and Mark encourage Sherlock fans to head to a website titled The Game Is Now, where they can sign up to an ‘adventure’ that’s ‘coming to London’ in 2018.
On the site, another teaser of an ‘intercepted transmission’ sees Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Mycroft Holmes (Mark Gatiss) discuss a mysterious project.
In the audio clip, Mycroft suggests they enlist the help of the public to solve their case.
“Recruit… real people?” Sherlock asks his brother in the clip. “Mycroft, you know you can’t trust them, they’re into all sorts of strange things – high protein yoghurts, photographs of food, voting.”
“Yes, but at least they’re replaceable,” says Mycroft.
So what does it all mean? At the moment, fans are guessing that an interactive adventure with some of the cast may be in the works.
The series itself aired its fourth season in 2017, and is yet to be given a confirmed return. Both Benedict and Steven have expressed interest in continuing the story, however, so perhaps this ‘new adventure’ is how they plan to do it?
