The Oscars dress deemed far too sexy by TV producers in Iran

Avert your eyes.
The Oscars 2017 gowns

It’s Hollywood’s most formal affair, but producers over in Iran’s TV control room were not loving the Dior gown Charlize Theron was wearing at this week’s Oscars.

While airing the show, the Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) took the liberty of censoring Charlize’s sparking dress using a series of dodgy techniques as they did not believe it was modest enough for their viewers.

We haven’t seen this much controversy over a dress since Clinton was in power.

Ironically, Charlize herself thought the couture dress was a little too risky when it debut during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week in January and had the neckline altered to be more conservative.

The dodgy Oscars censoring included hiding Charlize’s shoulders and chest with a black paint blob when she presented the award for Best Foreign Language Film alongside Shirley MacLaine.

Later, the ILNA went the whole shebang, covering her entire upper half with the more traditional blurred censor panel.

^ Subtle.

The censorship did not stop at big-name celebrities though. Anousheh Ansari, an engineer and astronaut who accepted the award Charlize was presenting on behalf of Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, also had the slither of skin which was showing between her shawl and neckline blurred out.

“Is shameful indeed, but that is how the Iranian media outlets based within the country have been covering such events for years,” says Mashih Alinejad, admin for online Islamic rights group My Stealthy Freedom.

“This is the Islamic Republic of Iran which forces girls as young as age seven to be covered up,” she added.

You can watch the ILNA’s handiwork in all its glory below.
