Jesinta Campbell has broken her silence about partner AFL star Buddy Franklin’s battle with mental illness.
Speaking at The Australian Women’s Weekly’s Women of the Future Awards, Campbell said she has fallen more in love with Buddy since he put his hand up and asked for help.
“I have fallen more in love with him through this process, because he has stood up, he’s been a man, he’s owned his feelings and his emotions and he’s said ‘I’m not okay’.”
“And sometimes it’s okay to not be okay.”
The model-turned-presenter spoke to her fellow panellists Annabel Crabb, Peta Credlin and The Weekly’s own Helen McCabe about how her fiancé is coping.
“Buddy will be a better partner for me, will be a better father for standing up and speaking about his struggle.”
“It’s been a long struggle, and it took a lot of courage and strength to be able to do what he has done,” said former Miss Universe Australia.
“He’s put his hand up and said, ‘I’m struggling. I’m struggling and I need help and I’m getting help’. And I think that is a really important thing for, not only men, but for women to do and own it. Sometimes I think we find the most power when we’re vulnerable, when we’re down.”
