Entrenched in the South African Jungle and opening up to his camp mates, Shane Warne has dropped a bombshell about his doomed engagement to Elizabeth Hurley.
The former cricket star and infamous ladies’ man appeared to be tamed by the stunning British model and actress when he proposed after a whirlwind eight-month romance back in 2011, but they split suddenly in 2013.
At the time, both Melburnian Shane, 46, and London-based Elizabeth, 50, made little comment other than to say they remained the best of friends.
In last night’s episode of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, Shane insisted they were still “mates” – but perhaps in a moment of weakness brought on by the gruelling camp conditions, he admitted something many celebrity watchers have been wondering for years – exactly how he felt about his ex-fiance’s close friendship with her former flame, Hugh Grant.
“It’s hard on a relationship when you’re really good friends with your ex. Elizabeth was really good friends with Hugh. He was like her best friend,” he began.
“When I used to come back to Australia, Hugh would come and spend the weekend at the house and I would be like, ‘What’s that?’”
“So I said, ‘I’ll tell you what, when I’m there, tell him to come then. I knew Hugh before you so just tell him to come over.’”
Shane then revealed that Liz told him, “He feels uncomfortable.”
In the background, fellow contestant Laurina Fleure could be heard declaring, “That’s not just friends.”
Later in the conversation, father-of-three Shane also shared his thoughts on living with a partner’s children – it’s not clear whether he was referring to Elizabeth’s son, Damian, 13, who is the result of a fling with Steve Bing and is Hugh’s godchild.
“You [date] someone your own age and they’ve got kids. I don’t really want to live with someone else’s kids,” he said, adding that having another child of his own is unlikely.
“I’d have to fall head over heels to have kids again,” he revealed. “If they were desperate for them. I’d consider it.”
