In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, Heather explained how the tough-girl barrier she built on the show all came crumbling down in front of the entire nation.
“The truth is, I was terrified that the minute I showed him my family and where I’m from and my background, that would be it,” she revealed. “And the fact that I didn’t receive a rose, I was like: ‘Oh, worst fear realised!’”
As the bachelor, Sam Wood took each of the four remaining girls to their homes, it seemed to dawn on him that Heather wasn’t the right girl for him as she laid bare the tragedies of her childhood and took him the the places that meant most to her as a child.
After the elimination the heartbroken 29-year-old stopped her would-be-suitor as he escorted her out of the mansion doors, held back her tears and said, “Can I ask why? Am I allowed to?”
His response was a perhaps the most devastating blow of all as he told the Sydneysider that they had nothing more than an “amazing friendship”. Ouch.
The 29-year-old also explained about the end to her time on the show, “It did kind of blow me a little bit sideways, I’m not going to lie.”
“Look, it didn’t work out. I did end up with a broken heart but that’s cool,” she added.
Now that Australia finally knows that she didn’t win over Sam’s love, Heather can finally move on, “I’m alright. It’s hard watching it back and having all of Australia think I’ve got a boyfriend. But it’s also kind of relieving at the same time,” she told the SMH.
But she’s not yet been able to find a new beau, “I’m not seeing anyone at the moment. It’s very difficult to have a boyfriend when everyone in Australia already thinks you’ve got one!”
And it seems the aspiring film-maker’s heart is still mending as she reveals that her and Sam no longer stay in touch.
“We haven’t been in touch because I think that would be a bit wrong given the show is still going. It wouldn’t look too good and it wouldn’t be nice for whoever he does pick,”
She’s still hopeful though, “but once it wraps, and if we get in touch and end up being mates, that would be unreal.”
