As the sun sets on his marriage, Today’s Karl Stefanovic is facing the prospect of watching as his estranged wife Cassandra Thorburn takes him on at his own game, with a controversial new role on rival TV show Sunrise.
Karl always credited Cass with helping to make him one of our most successful TV stars, and it looks increasingly likely she will get revenge for him walking out on their marriage in the most damaging way possible.
“Seven execs are frothing at the prospect of employing Cass,” confirms one network insider.
“There have been conversations with execs at Seven, and they’re talking about giving her a pivotal role.”
Last week, the 45-year-old signed on with talent manager Max Markson, but insists at this point, she won’t commit to anything as she needs to sell the home she and Karl shared before she can start afresh.
“Cass is an outstanding journalist with over 20 years experience in radio, television and of course writing,” Max told the Daily Mail.
“Cass was a hugely successful TV producer before she gave it all up to raise Karl’s kids, and Seven knows she’d be a valuable asset,” our source says.
“They saw the opportunity and recognised it, as she’d be a really good get.”
Meanwhile, the proud mum-of-three has spoken out about her split with the beloved Aussie personality.

“I’m grieving the loss of my relationship. The loss of my best friend and life partner,” the mother-of-three Mum Central.
Blasting critics, she confirmed her return to the workforce, stating, “I never thought that I was going to be a stay at home mum forever.”
“I didn’t know when I would return to work, so the criticism that I stayed at home living off Karl because I could, was really hurtful and insulting.”
