Working as a lifeguard at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, Anthony “Harries” Carroll has had his fair share of close calls when it comes to rescuing swimmers from the water.
But nothing could’ve prepared him for the closest call of his life.
Just moments after the 40-year-old and his wife Emily, 32, welcomed son Leo to the world by caesarean on August 31, things took a turn for the worse.
“It felt like my heart stopped,” Anthony tells Woman’s Day exclusively.
Recalling the moment he realised Leo wasn’t breathing properly, he explains, “Before we could even hold him the doctors swooped in and started working on him.”
“ It was the most frightened I’ve ever been in my life.”
Fortunately, after a few hours in intensive care, little Leo was finally breathing on his own.
“It was such a relief! That was the best feeling in the world, “ Anthony, who is already the proud dad to two-and-a-half-year-old son Billy, admits.
