This isn’t the first time Dirty Dancing has been revamped. Just one year after its original release, the classic inspired a TV series starring Melora Hardin, Patrick Cassidy and Ghostbusters director Paul Feig.

In 2004, it was turned into a stage musical and also got a prequel, set in Havana.

Many would recognise Abigail as the spectacled cutie from Little Miss Sunshine.

The newest instalment of the musical has been in the works for some time. While Patrick Swayze’s role as Johnny has not been filled, insiders tell Variety there is a wish list of high-profile talent.
