You’ll notice a few familiar faces in this year’s Australian Financial Review Rich List.
Topping the list of Aussie women raking in the chips is perhaps the unsurprising mining mogul Gina Rinehart at an eye-watering $10.41 billion in networth. She’s followed by her estranged daughter Bianca, who comes in at $2.74 billion and controls 23 per cent of Hancock Prospecting.
Telecommunications power couple Vicky Teo and David Teoh took out third place with an impressive $1.91 billion, with mining heiress Angela Bennett in a close fourth at $1.76 billion.
Alexandra Burt and Leonie Baldock – the daughters of businessman Michael Wright – round off the top five with $1.55 billion.
Gina Rinehart, 63, is the richest woman in Australia.
While the figures are unfathomable (imagine all the holidays we could take!), the gender wealth gap rings loud and clear.
Of the top five richest people in the country, the only female to appear is Gina Rinehart, who takes out third place below Cardboard box manufacturer and recycling tycoon Anthony Pratt and Sydney apartment developer Harry Triguboff.
And of the list in it’s entirety, only 22 women make appearances.
The entertainment industry, however, is well represented by Hollywood sensation Nicole Kidman, who creeps into the 97th slot at $347 million.
