Have a cup of chamomile tea before bed. Read a book or do a word puzzle to focus your mind on one thing before turning the lights out. Never let yourself nap in front of the TV at night. Jane Rosier, by email. This is a remedy I read years ago and it has always worked for me. If you are finding it hard to get to sleep even though you are tired, remove the pillow/s from under your head and lie flat on the mattress. You will be asleep in minutes! Ruth Ward, by email. Rub pure organic lavender oil on the soles of your feet and one drop under your pillow just before retiring. The secret is in the quality of the lavender oil! Diane Crosby, by email. Years ago I saw a program on TV about insomnia suffered by Flight Control Officers who did shift work. They conducted trials such as exercise, milk drinks etc and one of these trials consisted of 30 minutes of outdoor exercise each day. The officers who took their walks during a sunny day slept better and more deeply, supposedly because the sun was beating down on the top of their heads and triggering something in their brains. I have tried this at various times and do sleep better after some outdoor activity such as gardening. It works for me, but is it the gardening, or the sun on my head? Carolyn Day, by email.
