In a world where celebrities are having their placenta turned into edible capsules (looking at you, Kim Kardashian), one mother-of-two is now introducing us to a new, albeit questionably odd, pre-natal tradition: jewellery made from breast milk.
Ann Marie Sharoupim, a trained pharmacist, came up with the idea after experiencing hard times nursing her youngest child, Gabriella; Ann couldn’t produce enough milk for her little girl, so she used donor milk.
“As a symbol of my appreciation to my generous donor, I created a pendant for her,” Ann explains.
“Her gratitude and joy after receiving her pendant from me inspired me to create Mamma’s Liquid Love.
Basically, a mother sends Ann a sample of milk (35-40mls) to create two pieces, ranging from necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets and pendants.
She then sterilizes the milk and preserves it in resin. The result? A stone of a pearl-like appearance, which can differ from woman to woman (Ann has said that the colour can start as a creamy, white or could end up looking a little more yellow).
Ann’s business, which she runs out of her home in New Jersey in the U.S., ships to and from Australia, so for those wanting to invest some money in a breast-milk bauble of some kind, can…
