Trainer's tips: How Beyonce got her body back

Following the birth of her daughter, Blue Ivy, 13 months ago, Beyonce Knowles stepped out looking better than ever. So how did she do it? Her trainer has revealed the secrets behind the singer’s post-baby body.

After gaining 25kg during pregnancy, the 31-year-old sought help from exercise physiologist and trainer Marco Borges. He instructed the new mum to alter her diet by eating one vegan meal a day.

Marco told Life & Style magazine that when they try veganism “people typically eat more greens than they normally would”.

A strict vegan diet cuts out all animal products including dairy and eggs. It is effective as it helps to lower cholesterol, blood pressure, and the risk of heart disease, and prompts weight-loss results.

Marco also says “if you have to snack, don’t sacrifice nutrition” and advised Beyonce to eat vegan snacks including edamame (green soybeans), a green apple, or cucumbers sprinkled with vinegar, cayenne pepper and lemon instead of snacking on chips or chocolate.

Her meal plan also includes just a protein shake for lunch.

But her modified diet isn’t the only thing that saw Beyonce back on stage just three months after giving birth. She also follows an intense training and dance program, which helped prepare her for her high energy Super Bowl performance.

“Consistency is the key to success,” Marco said. “I love running-spring intervals for quick cardio sessions and also… running stairs.”
