The female orgasm has been a long talked-about subject – and not just in the bedroom.
In what could initially be seen as just another bit of banter about the big “O”, this detailed study may have just uncovered a few more clues to unlocking how the female climax really works.
As reported by Medical Xpress, a new review of Concordia research has plotted out the varying ways a woman can have an orgasm “from one or more sources of sensory input”.
So, it’s not only about the vaginal versus clitoral debate, but now the “external clitoral glans, the internal region near the G-spot, the cervic and sensory stimulation of non-genital areas such as the nipples” can induce an orgasm.
How? Jim Pfaus, the senior author of this study, who is also a psychology professor from the Faculty of Arts and Science at Concordia University, explains that over time, and with experience, the stimulation of these “triggering zones” can result in an orgasm.
He also stresses that not all orgasms have to come from just one sensory spot (it can be multiple), and that they will vary from woman to woman.
On top of that, different partners, sounds, setting and experiences can also play a role in a woman climaxing, and what their orgasm is like.
“Unlike men, women can have a remarkable variety of orgasmic experiences, which evolve throughout the lifespan,” says Pfaus.
This study not only explores the concept of a woman’s “erotic body map”, pin-pointing the numerous ways a woman can orgasm, but it also reiterates just how biologically different men and women are.
A man’s erotic road map will always stay the same meaning that male orgasms are centralised to just one trigger point.
A woman’s erotic road map, however, constantly changes over time, giving us the opportunity to experience a range of different types of orgasms.
“A woman’s erotic body map is not etched in stone, but rather is an ongoing process of experience, discovery and construction.”
