The department claims the health exams are to prove that candidates applying for long-term teaching positions are in good health. But most say it’s an invasion of privacy.
Ana Paula de Oliveria Castro, a public defender of women’s issues in Sao Paulo, told AAP: “It violates women’s rights. It’s very intimate information that she has the right to keep. It’s absurd to continue with these demands.”
Until recently, the department also required women to have a colposcopy.
Other health exams, including mammograms for women and a prostate test for men aged over 40, are reportedly also mandatory.
