Olivia Newton John’s husband, John Easterling, has shared a positive update about his wife’s battle with metastatic breast cancer that’s spread to her sacrum.
Speaking with People, John, 65, explained that after just a week of treatment the much-loved actress’s pain level has already “gone from [level] eight to about a two.”
“We both have the same unshakable belief that she’s going to have a wonderful success story,” he said. “We’re not trying to be positive. We have an absolute knowingness that we can turn this around.”
Olivia, 68, also spoke with the publication, revealing that she’s determined to stay positive in the face of adversity.
“I am really grateful for and touched by the worldwide outpouring of love and concern. Thank you. I am feeling good and enjoying total support from my family and friends, along with a team of wellness and medical practitioners both here in the U.S. and at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia,” the singer said in a statement. “I’m totally confident that my new journey will have a positive success story to inspire others! Love and light, Olivia.”
Last week, Olivia’s daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, 31, revealed that her superstar mum will be using both natural remedies and modern medicine to combat the disease.
“She will be using medicine that I often talk about,” the singer and actress wrote on Instagram. “CBD oil! (Cannabis has scientifically proven properties to inhibit cancer cell growth) and other natural healing remedies plus modern medicine to beat this.”
Chloe, who recently moved to the US state of Oregon to start a business in marijuana farming with fiancé James Driskill, also vowed to join in the fight against the “insidious” disease.
“Cancer is the disease of our generation and it is part of my and my mother’s quest to beat this insidious monster,” she wrote. “We both love you all, and anyone fighting this disease you can beat it. Look for natural remedies as well as what modern medicine can offer.”
“My mom is so powerful she will beat this in no time,” she added. “All my love to you. And I wish you health wealth and happiness.”
Olivia recently announced that she had postponed her North American tour after discovering her breast cancer had returned.
The 68-year-old had previously suspended the first half of her tour due to severe lower back pain from what she thought was sciatica. However, doctors have since diagnosed her with breast cancer, which has spread to her back or ‘metastasized to the sacrum.’
More than two decades ago, Olivia Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer on the same weekend that her father passed away.
She was just 43, and her diagnosis sent shockwaves through women who had fallen in love with the gorgeous Australian as they followed her journey to Hollywood superstardom.
After undergoing chemotherapy and a mastectomy the star was finally given the all clear.
The Australian-darling has plans to return to the stage later this year.
