I tried my best not to cry, too - I wanted to be strong for her.

It started as a mystery itch all over her body, and ended in tragedy for this young newlywed reports The Sun.

Lucy Crossley, 27, visited a medical centre with her maddening itch and was sent away with a lotion for scabies.

Another month of scratching went by for the personal trainer and her skin was raw and bleeding when another doctor prescribed anti-histamines.

After four months, and multiple doctors, Lucy was finally given an answer; she had bile duct cancer with a tumour growing in her liver.

By the time she was finally diagnosed with this rare cancer, her skin was “unbearably itchy and yellow.”

“The moment they told us she had cancer, she broke down. It was such a huge shock,” said Lucy’s husband, Liam, 30.

“I tried my best not to cry, too – I wanted to be strong for her.”

Lucy began chemo which she was confident would work. She married Liam and prepared to spend the rest of her life with him. She had no idea that would be cut terribly short.

“She didn’t even look ill. She was the most beautiful bride. She didn’t even feel as if there was anything wrong with her.”

Lucy was rushed to hospital after fainting two days before Christmas. They discovered internal bleeding from the tumour squeezing her liver, and she was told there was nothing left they could do.

She lost her short battle two days after Valentine’s Day last year.

“No one can really empathise – because I wouldn’t want people to feel the way I feel.

“I just want greater awareness of this disease and to prevent any more people suffering the way Lucy and I did.”

Bile duct cancer is on the rise, with a very high mortality rate, but doctors do not understand why incidences of the disease have shot up over the past 50 years.
