At the beginning of the year, Mel revealed she suffers from endometriosis, a condition that affects a woman’s reproductive organs.
Having suffered from the disease since the age of 17, the 33-year-old radio and television presenter, has explained to the Daily Mail she and husband Steven Pollock are looking forward to having children, with the aid of IVF and a surrogate.
“Just before I found out about the show, we had just finished a cycle [of IVF] to extract eggs. So we’ve got two embryos on ice at the moment,” she admitted to the online publication.
The Celebrity Apprentice contestant continued, “[It’s] probably not wise to implant while you’re going through something stressful so we put it on hold while I did the show but hopefully in November, December, January we might implant.”
Mel added that the process relied on “such a small window”.
Despite admitting that she’ll “probably need a surrogate in the end,” Mel was trying to fall pregnant naturally.
But the radio star has since revealed her heartbreaking reality.
“My endometriosis is really bad… it’s getting worse. They said I need a hysterectomy.”
Reflecting, “At 33 that’s not what you want to hear.”
The reality star hopes her time on Celebrity Apprentice will allow her to shed light on the severity of the condition with Endometriosis Australia her charity of choice.
The star who may need to get her uterus removed due to the seriousness of her illness, explained that many of her fellow celebs weren’t familiar with the disease.
“It’s such a taboo topic that people are scared to talk about. Half the celebrities didn’t even know what endometriosis was,” Mel said, adding she was happy to be “able to educate them”.
Among those who she has educated is North Adelaide AFL player, husband, Steve.
The long-time couple, who Mel cited as a constant support during the royal prank saga, tied the knot last November in an intimate Byron Bay intimate ceremony.
