You may remember “Fit Mum” Maria Kang for her controversial post in 2013 which featured her toned bod and three young kids demanding, “What’s your excuse?”
The post saw her slapped with a temporary ban from Facebook and an influx of irate comments accusing her of body-shaming mums.
She refused to apologise and now she’s back, this time questioning, “What’s your reason?”
Five years on, her three boys are now eight, seven and six and Maria’s softened her message. She’s now urging women to focus on why they want to increase their fitness.
She captioned the post: “After you address your Excuse, you need to find your Reason. 5 years later I’m still seeking the hard route, after all, in a country where you are the Healthy minority you must #dodifferent.”
(We don’t know why she keeps capitalising excuse and reason, either.)
“You need to find your reason, your WHY for prioritizing your health. You are who you surround yourself with so if everyone is starting an extreme diet, be balanced. If everyone is sitting watching TV shows, get up and move.
“If everyone is ordering high-calorie meals and drinking sugary drinks, choose otherwise!”
She added: “You know what’s right, just don’t follow the habits and lifestyle of the majority of overweight/obese people who do it wrong. Many asked for a side-by-side so here you go! What’s Your Reason? Plant it and GROW.”
Despite the seemingly more lenient tone, Maria rejects claims her earlier messages were bullying or mum-shaming.
“I’ve never been a fat-shamer or online bully. I work and therefore don’t workout all day.
“I’ve got excuses but I’m not hiding behind them, letting it tell my story or giving me a hall pass for unhealthy behaviors [sic].”
