Jane Fonda has opened up about a recent cancer scare, revealing that she needed to have a cancerous growth removed from her lower lip.
The actress, who has been pictured with bandages on her face this week, made the admission while promoting the upcoming fourth season of her Netflix series, Grace and Frankie.
“I just want to explain the bandage. I just had a cancer taken from my lip,” the 80-year-old said during a ‘BUILD Series’ interview alongside her co-star Lily Tomlin. “I thought it was going to heal in time before I came before you, but it’s fine. I just want to explain it. I don’t normally go around like this.”
Jane recently needed to have a cancerous growth removed from her lower lip.
The 80-year-old opened up about the ordeal while promoting the upcoming fourth season of her Netflix series, ‘Grace and Frankie.’
Jane didn’t go into too much detail about the ordeal, insisting that there are far more important things for us all to focus on right now.
“Well, the world is falling apart, what’s a lip?” she said.
She later confirmed that she had a biopsy and the results looked good, saying: “They did [biopsy it.] I’m going to be fine, thanks.”
Taking to Instagram on Monday, the Barbarella star made light of the cancer removal while also reassuring fans of her continued health.
“With Lily in NY. I’ve found a clever way to disguise my lip bandages from removal of cancer,” she wrote in the caption.
Jane recently made headlines after an awkward on-air exchange with a television host.
Appearing on morning show Megyn Kelly Today to promote her film Our Souls at Night with co-star Robert Redford, the icon wasn’t too thrilled when Megyn asked her about her history with plastic surgery.
“You’ve been an example to everyone in how to age beautifully and with strength and unapologetically. You admit you’ve had work done, which I think is to your credit,” Megyn said. “And you look amazing. Why did you say, I read that you said, you’re not proud to admit you had work done. Why not?”
Jane appeared annoyed at the question. She frowned before responding: “We really want to talk about that right now?”
Apparently Megyn didn’t get the hint, and tried the question again, this time flattering the actress’s appearance further. But her attempt flopped even harder than the first when it was clear that Jane, who has been an advocate for political and environmental causes throughout her life, did not want to indulge in the superfluous question. Instead she responded:
“Good attitude, good posture, take care of myself — but let me tell you why I love this movie, Our Souls at Night, rather than plastic surgery,” she said.
Of course Twitter had Jane’s back and were just as outraged by the sexist questions. Why didn’t Jane’s co-star, Robert get asked about his appearance? Come on Megyn!
