The 31-year-old mother-of-one revealed on Instagram amount a month ago she discovered she had a rare type of brain tumour that’s “taken me a while to come to terms with”.

“You’re not supposed to Google your symptoms because the internet says everything is either stomach cancer or a brain tumour. Turns out, sometimes Google gets it right.”

Fortunately, the tumour is both benign and operable so the political commentator will undergo surgery in late January, followed by a few months recovery.

“I’m not in any pain. This is not and will not affect me cognitively. I’m writing, speaking and working as normal and that’s how I intend to continue,” she wrote.

“I’ve also been assured the tumour isn’t compressing a secret conservative lobe of the brain so there’s no risk I’ll emerge from surgery singing the praises of Donald Trump or Tony Abbott.”

The Project guest host sung her praises for the Australian healthcare system and the “brilliant surgeons, specialists and nurses” who’ve treated her so far.

“Lots of people are asking what I need. I don’t want sympathy and I certainly don’t want pity. But I would welcome your fierce confidence that I’ll recover and be back doing what I love ASAP.

“I fully intend to be fine.”

“A day will come when you don’t even notice Guide Dog donation boxes, let alone stop to pat them on their sandy heads and kiss their metal noses.

“One day you will be like everyone else in the world and wave goodbye only to people, not places that you’ve loved,” she wrote.

“Stop it. Stop growing up, please. Just stay the way you are. Safe. Happy. And mine.”
