From a sauna suit that promises to help you “lose inches in moisture” while doing the housework to air shorts that “massage” the body into a slimmer shape, 1970s fitness equipment was vastly different to the treadmills of today.
Instead of working up a sweat jogging, 70s men and women preferred to perspire in plastic clothing while doing no physical activity at all.
When it came to exercise machines, they favoured modified sun loungers and gadgets that promised to jiggle their excess flesh away, resulting in “rapid slimming” without a diet.
The sauna suit: ‘Just slip and wear while you work or play!’
Jiggle those love handles away.
‘Take inches from the stomach with exercise or diet.’
Air shorts: ‘Great for shedding body moisture.’
Turn your session in the sun into a workout with this modified lounger.
‘Provides same stimulating exercise as expensive equipment used in health clubs.’
