Tegan Haining has trained everyone from Aussie model Jessica Gomes to one of our all-time fave A-listers, David Beckham, so why wouldn’t we listen to her?!

Fact: the silly season is bound to leave you with one almighty Christmas ham-over (if you don’t believe us now, you may once you’ve polished off those post-Boxing Day leftovers).

It’s this colossal Christmas binge-athon that not only induces food comas of snooze-worthy proportions, but can also cause us to let our fitness slip to the wayside…

This is why we need Tegan Haining: the Survivor alum/ PT looking to reach your PB, all without necessarily slogging it out in the gym.

Before making her mark on Survivor and forming a Vavau alliance with funnyguy Nick Iadanza, Tegan was living in London, putting celebrities like David Beckham through their paces at James Duigan’s Bodyism gym.

Now, if you don’t have the desire to hit up a gym during the summer holidays, here, Tegan – who’s just released her next-level home-workout-loaded book, The 7 Day Quickie, schools us on the kind of exercises that a) barely cost a cent, b) you don’t need equipment for and c) that don’t even feel like exercise.

It’s a win-win!

Paddle boarding

If you’re looking for a way to shred your core and have a great time doing it, rent a paddle board and head out into the (still water) ocean.

This sneaky exercise is super-hard work for your cardiovascular system and requires constant core engagement for balance, but you won’t notice because you’ll be concentrating on not falling in!

According to Tegan, paddle boarding is fun squared!

Beach volleyball

Head to the beach with your friends and prepare to sweat your face off. Super tough on the legs, this will tone those legs like nothing else, make sure you squeeze your butt when you jump up to really engage the glutes!

Beach volley ball is my favourite way to do 60 mins of cardio without even realising it.

Mountain trail hikes

Hiking is the ultimate daytime or weekend adventure that also doubles as a free workout. It’s so easy to lose track of time when you’re taking in the beauty all around you.

Pro tip: choose a location with a waterfall to cool off half way through.

Coastal walks

We are so fortunate to live in a country with an unlimited amount of coastal walks! Grab a coffee and a friend, and take a brisk walk around one of the many coasts that surround us.

The ocean provides great energy and cleansing air.

Walking along the coast is as good for your body as it is for your mind.

Ocean swims

Build core strength, cardio resistance and muscle with a long, peaceful harbour swim. If you can, get your mates and take a boat out for the day.

Do a few laps around the boat or have a race to the shore!

Feel like working up a sweat at home but don’t want to leave the house? The 7 Day Quickie is Tegan’s one-week program that’s designed to set you on your own way to a healthier, happier you.
